Q - How do I
Place\View Ads? A - To place a new

to log on. Once you have logged onto the system using
your username and password, you will be asked to

your ad in. You will then see the ad posting form.

to go back to the ad posting form. Otherwise, if
you are satisfied with the appearance of your ad,
click on the Submit button. If your ad is successfully
posted, the system will display a "success" page.
Once your ad has been posted, you will be given the
opportunity to upload a photo to be included with
your ad.
Q - I made a typo
and want to edit my ad but I forgot my
ad number? A - To
modify your ad, please click on the Edit
Ads link from the navigation bar. You
will be prompted to log on. Once you
have logged onto the system using your
username and password, you will be asked
whether you want to modify an ad, renew
an ad, delete an ad, or upload a photo.
To modify your ad, choose the Modify/Renew
Ad button. On the next page, enter your
Ad Number in the form and click on the
Submit button. If you entered it correctly,
the system will display your ad, along
with a form that contains all of your
current information already filled in.
You can simply modify whatever fields
you wish to change and then click on
the "Submit Modifications" button.
Once your ad has been modified, the system
will display a successful modification
notice. In the case of a forgotten ad
number, please view your ad. On the left
side of the ad is a box where you can
e-mail the ad to a friend, this box also
contains date posted, expiration date
and your ad number.
Q - How do I find
what I want? A - You
can browse through ads in the system
by clicking on the "Browse Ads" link
that appears just below the keyword search
field on any page. The system will display
ads in groups of 25 ads per page. You
can search for ads by sub-category at
any time by clicking on the "Search" link
in the navigation bar. This will take
you back to the front page, where all
of the ad categories are listed. The
number in parentheses listed next to
each category indicates the number of
ads that are currently contained within
that category. Choose a category by clicking
on it. You will then see a list of the
sub-categories within that category,
along with the number of ads contained
in each sub-category. Click on one of
the sub-categories to see all of the
ads that have been posted within that
sub-category. To search for ads by keywords,
you can use the search form that appears
just underneath the top navigation bar
on any page. Enter the keyword or keywords
that you want to search on in the input
field, and then specify whether you want
to search for ANY of your keywords, ALL
of your keywords, or this EXACT PHRASE.
Then click on the Search! button. The
ads (if any) that matched your search
criteria will be displayed on the following
page. The Advanced Search form allows
you to conduct an advanced keyword search.
You can use Boolean logic to conduct
a search for ads that contain ANY of
your keywords, ALL of your keywords,
or your keywords as AN EXACT PHRASE.
You can also specify whether you want
the search to be case sensitive or not,
and how many days ago you want to retrieve
ads from. You can specify a particular
category or search on all categories,
and you can even specify only ads that
match a specific caption header. You
can also choose to display only those
ads that contain photos, and you also
have the option of displaying the ads
full size or in the short "headlines" format.
Q - I don't want
my e-mail address given out! A - We
require your e-mail address for a number
of reasons. First, and most obvious,
is to make sure you are a real person
posting to our classifieds and to notify
you that your ad has been placed. Second,
we need your e-mail address for administrative
functions such as billing, notifying
you when your ad will expire, renewing
ads if you wish and specials we may run
from time to time. Third, you need to
have an e-mail address on file with us
if you wish to take advantage of the
powerful features of Hudson Valley Horses
Classifieds such as "My Checklist" and "Auto
Notify" All that being said, we
respect your privacy and do not sell
give out or in anyway give up your e-mail
address to anyone else. In fact, we do
not even post your e-mail address in
the ads themselves, every ad with an
e-mail response has a "Reply To" link
rather than your actual e-mail -- you
will get the e-mail but your address
is always secure. Finally, unless you
have requested to receive our newsletter,
you will not hear from us except for
administrative purposes.
Q - How do I
add or change a picture? A - This
option allows you to upload a new photo
to your ad or to overwrite the existing
photo for that ad. In the Upload A
Photo form, enter the Ad Number of
the ad that you want to add the photo
to. Then you will need to click on
the Browse button and select a file
from your local computer to upload
for inclusion in the ad. Once you have
done so, click on the "Upload
Photo to your ad" button to upload
the photo to your ad. Since the program
will be uploading a file, it may take
a couple of minutes, depending on the
size of the photo and the speed of
your Internet connection. We do limit
the size of the photographs you are
able to upload. The maximum size allowed
is 300 pixels wide by 300 pixels high
and a file size no greater than 50K.
This is to ensure the speed of loading
the ads. If you are having trouble
uploading your picture please e-mail
us and we will try to resolve the problem.
Q - What is "My
Profile"? A - "My
Profile" is exactly that --
YOU -- Our program remembers you
so that once you sign on and fill
out your information the next time
you come back to place, revise or
renew an ad you do not have to reenter
all of your personal information.
Q - What is "My
Checklist"? A - "My
Checklist" is a very convenient
feature of Hudson Valley Horses Classifieds.
It allows you to browse through many
ads in a variety of sections and "mark" the
ads for later retrieval. For instance,
if you are interested in buying a saddle,
there may be 100 saddles for sale of
which you are interested in 3. If you
have checklisted these ads you can
simply retrieve these ads by clicking
on "View My Checklist" without
having to sort through the entire 100
ads. To use the Checklist feature,
click on the "Add to my Checklist" link
within the ad that you want to add
to your Checklist. If you haven't already
logged in, you will be prompted to
do so (if you are not already a registered
user, you will need to register first).
You should then see a page informing
you that the system has successfully
included this ad on your Checklist.
To retrieve your checklisted ads, click
on the "My Checklist" link
in the navigation bar. If you haven't
already logged in, you will be prompted
to do so (if you are not already a
registered user, you will need to register
first). You will then see a page that
lists all of your checklisted ads.
You can delete ads from your checklist
by checking the box next to that ad
on this page and clicking on the "Delete
Selected Ads" button at the bottom
of the page. Ads are automatically
removed from your checklist when they
expire or are deleted.
Q - What is "Auto
Notify"? A - "Auto
Notify" is another powerful feature
designed to help you find exactly what
you are looking for -- even if you
are not online at Hudson Valley Horses.
The Auto-Notify feature allows you
to set up a personal search agent that
will automatically send you new ads
that match the keywords that you define
in your "Auto Notify" profile.
You will also be able to set the number
of days that your personal search agent
should operate before it automatically
expires. To set up an Auto-Notify agent,
click on the Auto-Notify link in the
navigation bar. From the Auto-Notify
options page, click on the Create Agent
button. You will be prompted to log
in. If you have already registered,
you can enter your username and password
in the log on form. If you haven't
already registered, you must register
in order to use this feature. Once
you have logged in, specify the keywords
and other criteria (such as the category
or type of ad) that your search agent
will use when looking at new ads. When
new ads are posted to the system that
match your criteria, you will be notified
by e-mail, including a link to the
ad. You can modify or delete your Auto-Notify
search agent at any time by clicking
on the Auto-Notify link in the navigation
bar and then choosing Modify Agent
or Delete Agent from the Auto-Notify
options page. You will need to log
on to the system in order to modify
or delete your profile, so please make
a note of your username and password,
as well as the number of your Auto-Notify
profile.
